Want to become an Umpire?
Into Officiating Course is the first step on the officiating pathway.
This course is designed to get you to understand the basic rules, positioning and movement required to umpire well. The course is Two virtual sessions and a 15-minute practical session.
There are courses for 18 + and for 13–17-year-olds.
You can register an expression of interest on the England Netball Officiating page, where they will keep you up to date with course dates. Once courses are available, they will need to be booked through the Engage system.

C Award
Is the next step on the officiating pathway, once you are the holder of the Into Officiating award.
The course is two virtual sessions, a written paper and a practical test.
You must be 14 +
The course is to help you umpire at a higher level in your county. The outcome of the course is to deliver:
Improve your current understanding and knowledge of the rules of the game
Improve your umpiring skills by identifying/observing and penalising infringements of the rules
Be able to demonstrate how positioning, movement and vision impacts on an umpire’s performance
Begin to develop an awareness of when it is appropriate to playing Advantage
Have an awareness of Contact v Contest
Understand the importance of Game Management for control and discipline
B Award
Next level after the C award.
Min age 14. (*U16 accredited umpires who hold the C Award may progress along the B Award pathway but may not take the practical assessment until they are 16.)
The outcomes of the course are to deliver:
Apply the rules in a more demanding game environment
Understand the Match Guidelines
Begin to apply advantage where appropriate
Have a better understanding of the importance of good vision, positioning and timing
Demonstrate the difference between Contact that does or does not interfere with play
Utilise effective Game Management techniques
Understand the requirements to progress along the B Award officiating pathway
